One of my favorites things to do is talk music with good friends.

So over breakfast by the fireplace at a uniquely zen Lake Wallenpaupack cabin..I asked a good friend, Drew — who is from and lives in Allentown — what did think about Billy Joel‘s song with the same name as the city on his mail.

With a whist of annoyance, Drew spouted that he should have never been given the key to the city.

As Drew’s nose flared, he continued that he felt like he had to (and apparently still needs to) defend his peeps since Mr. Joel made them all look down on their luck and run down.

The situation has its own Wikipedia and Songplaces entries.

He did say part of him thought it was cool at the time, but would have rather avoided the whole thing looking back.

We then quickly starting talking about what people do in Allentown.

For God sake’s, the Martin Guitar shop is down the road…leave the man and his neighbors alone people.

I then walked over to the cd rack and put on The Band’s version of the Bruce song “Atlantic City”.  Drew smiled and kicked back.

Liner notes: Drew is the co-author of a Main Line PA original hit song “Creamy Burger Blues” in the band “Rembrandt Creek” during the early 90s.
