Although the high cost of tickets (StubHub fetched $300 each) to see Bonnie Raitt at the amazing Capital Theatre in Port Chester, NY perplexed me…it was worth every penny.

Sitting (yes the Cap brought out assigned seats) a few rows from the stage, watching this legendary guitar goddess go about her business was a real “notch on the belt”.

With her ageless red hair flowing and voice pitched just perfectly, Ms. Raitt took the audience through a nice mix of classic sing alongs (many from her Luck of the Draw album from 1991) as well as some lesser know rootsy blues number that proved to bring our her rock and roll spirit.

My favorite song selections of the night was (of course) her very sweet and slow rendition of Johnny Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery”, which she made famous on the radio…second was her cover of Bob Dylan’s “Standing in the Doorway” from his masterpiece Time Out of Mind.  Here is the full setlist.

Now I know very little about Ms. Raitt other than the general story of rock and roll chick who learned to play bottle neck blues like no other lady…then crashed and burned…then resurged her career and talents….

BUT, watching her interact with her band and work the stage I got the feel she is most at home and comfortable when on stage with her guitar in hand and red hair blowing in the wind.

When they made her they broke the mold.

She’s an important piece of the rock and roots music timeline.

Lastly, and less important, Marc Cohn of “Walking in Memphis” fame was totally underwhelming as the opening act.

FYW.
