| Slint at The Wick (via my iPhone) |
One of my music buddies egged me on to join him at a new music venue (The Wick) in Brooklyn to see a band (Slint) that he liked. Like most music adventures this too was fun, although my affinity for southern goth rock is still non-existent.
Bellowing deep inside a large old warehouse, the band took the stage around 11:00 on this May Tuesday night and the packed house of Brooklyn goth-hipsters immediately began the head bobbing.
Before the show (yes I was the first one there), I talked with some Slint fans, who raved about their creativity and herald them as one of the next great rock bands. In fact, they formed in the late 1980’s and recently reunited for another go at it. I was surprised to see they have quite the history and were pioneers.
The enthusiasm and blind faith of the fans was great to see.
About 15 minutes into the show, I saw a reincarnation of early Pink Floyd when “The Floyd” played noise in large warehouses on the outskirts of London in the late 1960s.
Here is a video from the show I found on YouTube.
