I was very excited to see the jazz guitar legend Pat Metheny in this very interesting co-bill (August 2, 2014) at the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts with the wonderfully entertaining Bruce Hornsby.

Although Metheny can out-do Steve Vai and Joe Satriani at their own game, and has the ability to play one of the weirdest 35 string plus instruments I have ever seen… I did not like his show.  His music does not connect with my ears and brain.  I also don’t like his stage presence nor his guitar tone.

It left me hollow.

I will stop there without making jokes about his hair.

Bruce Hornsby on the other hand, was fantastic! Hornsby thrived in this environment with other great jazz musicians to lend a hand in this unique outdoor Caramoor theatre (which was named “one of the 10 best venues in the world” by CNN).

Hornsby’s hunched over aggressive piano playing position evokes energy. His playing has tremendous depth.

His between song raps are always entertaining as well.  I am looking forward to seeing/hearing his in progress Broadway musical titled SCKBSTD…that’s pronounced Sick Bastard.  Reminds me of a Carl Hiassen book.

Being my first time at Caramoor, my eyes were wide open to the scene, which was very cool, upscale Westchester in an authentic rich history sort of way, instead of a snobbish vibe one might have expected.

Too bad the 80 year old hall monitor nazis wouldn’t let me take pictures from my 20th row center seat…

BUT, I found a terrific perch atop the loge gardens where I was able to snap the wide angle stage photo above, and more importantly enjoy the cool summer breeze.

The other pic was taken on the way to the men’s room…it was worth the scolding Nanny Hen gave me after my leak.

I look forward to catching one of the more intimate performances inside the Caramoor.  See the video below for more on this one of a kind music mecca…
