From the first row balcony I snapped a few low quality iPhone photos of the band.
I had touted the opening band (Hard Working Americans) as a must see and was disappointed with their act.
The songs were not as rich as the studio release (which is fantabulous!! Here is link to a Feb story I did on the album) and the stage presence (poor lighting on lead singer Todd Snider) was distracting. The Beacon was too big for them. For whatever reason it didn’t work as well as my expectations. Too bad…I can’t wait to see them again at a different venue.
I did though buy this awesome t-shirt!
A few rows behind me and my show mate, I saw the super cool David Fricke.
Funny, he was in the same spot as the last time I saw him at The Beacon.
Wonder what he thought of the the Hard Working Americans? If I see him, I will ask certainly ask him.

More important, The Beacon on the other hand has become home for the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek Trucks has taken the torch and run with it. Mule and TTB will keep that place cookin’.
My March pilgrimage to see the Brothers is now an annual visit with the coolest husband and wife rock and rollers around.

Watching Derek Trucks evolve through the years on this stage has become quite something. During the March Allman run Derek and Eric Clapton joined the band for some Derek and the Dominoes classics. Clapton then followed Derek and Warren into Elizabeth Reed and shook his head at how god damn awesome Derek Trucks was on the guitar. (Click here to see my story on that show from March 2009.)
The highlight for me at their Saturday Sept 20 2014 show was the rousing “Keep on Growing”…one of my favorite Derek and Dominoes tracks. The Tedeschi Trucks Band flexes it muscle wide on this song. Jimmy Herring joined them too for a few songs and was a nice compliment to Derek.

I must say that I am very impressed with Susan Tedeschi. I didn’t realize she was such a good guitar player and band leader. Many good years ahead from the band…I am rooting loud for them.
Here are some video clips on YouTube from the show to get a flava:
