Nestled in the corner of a busy hippish NYC hangout (The Gilroy) on 81st and Second Ave, two musical troubadours I have known for 30 years rambled through a Grateful Dead centric set list with the perfect blend of bar band professionalism and two guys having fun jamming a list of great tunes.

Armed with a well-traveled standup bass and curious leg attached gizmos, Adam Roberts (see below) and Eric Escoffery entertained restaurant goers and themselves for more than a few hours. As NYC street goers walked buy, I noticed more than a few bopping their head…a half dozen or so loved the music so much they walked in a song or two.

Escoffery’s subtle voice and guitar touches went a long way with Garcia fans in the audience (including me) on “Thrill is Gone” and “Catfish John”. I also particularly enjoyed their version of Van Morrison’s “Stoned Me”.

Both of these guys play in the NYC area with many different variations of bands… check em out.

I know I will be at the show at Olive’s in Nyack on Nov. 1.

Here is Adam playing The Gilroy the week before (with Mike Messer) during his Thursday night month long residency.
