This picture I snapped of Chris Robinson
looking so giddy at the setlist captures
the vibe at the Brooklyn Bowl
on St. Patty’s 2015

Each year I look forward to Soulive’s March extravaganza at Brooklyn Bowl called Bowlive.  The band brings in all sorts of cool guests to join the band on one of the best stages in all the land.

I went twice this year.  First, to the matinee Saturday show on March 14, 2015 (click here for that story).

I also went on St. Paddy’s Day when Mr. Chris Robinson led the band on a Grateful Dead-laden set list that proved its weight in leprechaun gold.  It was such a delight to have one of my longtime show mates D.T. from Philly in tow for the bash.  (D.T. is one of the most knowledgeable music men I know.)  It was also nice to see so many familiar faces at the show… most of all Joe B from New City.

My favorite pre-show watering hole when going to Brooklyn Bowl is the Turkey’s Nest.  Drinks come in styrophone cups (small and large size), the juke box is loaded with rock and roll, the pool table is only 75 cents.

Soulive was so fucking hot, they set the fire alarm off during the show (literally)!

Grounded stage left front rail (my typical spot at the Bowl), I was able to see (and feel) first hand the intensity of the band as it barred through its set.  I must say, every time I see Soulive (and there has been many shows), I am enamored by the drummer Alan Evans. He is quite the showman and has a unique way of leading the band without being the front man.

Chris Robinson has played many times in the NYC area over the last year or two, and has been obviously having lots of fun doing it.(See Phil Lesh and Friends show story and Crowes Acoustic show story.)

The Chris Robinson wave will end at some point, so catch it while you can.
