Although I did not have an eargasm, Modest Mouse last week was fun… especially in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Bandshell.

Prospect Park Bandshell is a gem of a venue.  I am sorry that I didn’t make plans to see Jason Isbell play just two nights later. The last show I saw at Prospect Park was Wilco.  They kicked ass. Here is that story.

Here is a good review of the Modest Mouse Show on Baeble Music and on Diffuser by Emily Tan, both with pics and more detailed play by play, etc.

My favorite song of the night was “Dramamine” (click here for YouTube video).  It is a thick and hearty song and was played well that night.

I also really liked “Fire it Up”.(click here for YouTube)

Before tonight, other than a good friend’s strong recommendation that I’d like them, I knew little of Modest Mouse.

In fact, I like them.  Thanks Ryan.  I like them a lot, even the newer stuff.  I just don’t like the pop rock crap, and they play too much of it.

At their best, I hear Pavement, The Replacements and The Hold Steady…. a super cool and interesting musical pot to be in.

I enjoy Isaak Brock (the lead singer)’s antics too. At one point he reminded me of the guy from Scanners who can blow up people’s head by just thinking about it.

Fun shit.

FYW.
