The second episode of Vinyl was better than the first.
The third episode was better than the second.
That’s a good trend, and I’m going to bet that it will continue.
The first episode was awful though.
Maybe it was the anticipation of the potentially coolest music series ever made. Created by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, how could it not be? Unfortunelty, the first episode was two hours of boring getting to know you set-up scenes with little music and no fun.

| Other than Juno Temple’s character (bubbly blonde on the left) there isn’t much to like about the “Vinyl” characters thus far.
It is the worst role I have ever seen Ray Romano play. 🙁 |

I’m sure you know, but if you didn’t… the James Jagger (yes Mick’s son) character is based on Richard Hell.
Did you read Richard Hell’s review (click here)? It is a MUST READ and so fargin true. He though the show was boring.
The New Yorker didn’t like it either (read here).
In episode two the music started to show up. The New York Dolls scene was entertaining. The way that Richie felt in the crowd as the ceiling caved in, was how we all feel when the music hits that ultra high note and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
The third episode included a really funny set of scenes on Alice Cooper, in which he dupes an A&R man then scares him with a fake guillotine. I was relived when Alice turned his back on the A&R man trying to allure him away from his band as a solo act.
The scene with the DJ starting to spin two turntables was cool too. The discussion (listing) of bands to cut or keep was entertaining as well…
This show must get better.
It only will get better though with the sharing of insightful tales about how the music of the 70s developed and changed the people in NYC. The soap opera crap should be just filler, not the other way around.
Marty… Tell us about Iggy Pop sticking broken drums sticks in his arm.
Mick… I wanna know what David Byrne, Lou Reed and Stiv Bators did while hanging at Max’s Kansas City.
This show must get better… please?
Peace. FYW.
