Back in the days of dorms and cheap tequila, Steve “Mango Man” Young and I created a series of evenings called “Boozin” Tunes”. Nothing special, just drinking songs, cocktails and some comfortable chairs.

In 2001, I recreated “Boozin Tunes” through a compilation of songs that embodied that Americana spit fire spirit. That first cd featured guys like Dylan, Neil and Steve Stills, as well as lesser known pickers such as Leo Kottke, John Prine, Chris Smither and Willis Allan Ramsay.

As I put the finishing touches on the now eighth annual “Boozin’ Tunes” for the 2008 holiday season, I can’t help but to sit back, slurp my pint of T&G with fresh lime (of course), listen and smile.

Some of this year’s songs include an Evan Dando cover of one of my favorite Gram Parsons songs, a very funny John Prine duet, a great new Son Volt tune, and finally a Bruce song…even the Doors.

Merry Christmas from the Thunderbird Ranch!
