It is a common question that baffles people or makes them smile. “What kind of music do you like”. For my money, and I am a very non-judgmental kind of guy, it is the piece of information of which I judge another.
Ever get, “whatever’s on the radio” or “a little bit of everything”…lame. Totally lame and not someone I’m interested in expending any energy with.
How about…
“I like Al Green, The Beatles, Counting Crows and Joss Stone. All sorts of cool stuff.”
“I’m a sick Allman’s fan”, “Deadhead”, “Country music fan” and “AC/DC, Led Zepplin and Black Crows”.
“In my cd player is a nice mix…Electric Ladyland by Hendrix, Hot House by Bruce Hornsby, a disk from Springsteen’s Box set, a mixed tape from my friend Sherm that has a bunch of Widespread Panic-type bands, and a Stevie Nicks Best of…”
Even…
“I like hip hop”, “Classical is my thing”, “I’m into Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and jean jacket metal bands from the 80s” and “I am an Indigo Girl fanatic” is better than “I don’t know. Whatever is playing is fine.”
I’m sorry for those who can’t declare.
Be proud. Be loud. Turn up the volume.
