
Did you ever notice that baseball is the only sport in which it is better to hear and imagine the game than watch (like football, basketball, hockey…)?
The sounds of the game paint quite a vivid picture.
It might have something to do with the number of games (162) that are played and the relationship that develops between announcers and fans. The familiarity of the voices and way play-by-play announcers describe the game is quite potent.
To be caddy for a minute…the Mets announcers (Howie Rose and Wayne Hagie) are terrific. I don’t care for John Sterling (although I understand why others like him) and look forward to the day Susan Waldman retires.
