Jay Farrar is on the Flying Burritto Brother trail with his new album called (notable)… “Honky Tonk”.  I have enjoyed the last few albums from his reincarnated Son Volt band and like this one too.  I find that I can always can go back for more (always a good sign that the music is for me) when it comes to Son Volt’s last 5 or 6 releases.

The Flying Burrito Brothers were a colorful bunch.

Side Note: For anyone not familiar with the lineage that connects Son Volt, Wilco, Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Uncle Tupelo…click here.)

On Son Volt’s “Honky Tonk”….Relix says “This album offers appealing neo-retro textures and beautifully arranged songs, some of which are too sluggish and mannered for their own good.” Click here for their piece.

They could be right, but I am a big texture fan.  Love sticky.  The songs “Brick Walls” (play the teaser clip below) and “Seawall” pick my fancy in particular.

Rolling Stone (click here) more accurately state that Son Volt is on the Bakersville-style country train…think tequila soaked Buck Owens.
