Sitting atop in the VIP/media balcony stage right at NYC’s Irving Plaza, me and my band of merry men and women shook and shaked for almost three hours when Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds took stage with their high viscosity rock and soul show.
The band first caught my attention at Mountain Jam 2012 and have drawn me to venues all over the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area ever since.
It was wonderful to see her show evolve (a very difficult thing for hard touring bands) with new songs and an increased level of maturity. Sister Sparrow’s wings are spread wide and strong for this latest run.
Watch these YouTube clips of the show and you will see first hand…
The band’s show at The Brooklyn Bowl on January 29 is tops on my “must see” list for next month. Being from Brooklyn, the band decided to run a Facebook contest that allows fans to vote for the classic album they will cover for the home crowd.
I’ve said it several times on the pages of this blog, Sister Sparrow (real name Arleigh Kircheloe) is the real deal and I expect her to continue to generate increased interest from great music fans with each and every show.
BTW…I predict a huge return for them at Mountain Jam in 2014.
Relix Magazine has recently published a long feature on the band about their new album and big band sound. They also shared some backstage photos from the show.
BTW2…after the irving Plaza show the band’s equipment was stolen and resulted in a few cancelled shows. The outpouring of charity to get these rockers back on stage was cool to watch and yet another one of those great features of the very evil social media sires.
Like they say in the song “Come on Out and Catch The Show..They’ll be saints and sinners…”
FYW.
