Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds (website) announced their cover-show contest on Facebook, I quickly voted for Led Zeppelin IV.

Lucky for me…my vote was in the majority.

Even before knowing if Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac or Zeppelin was the evening’s theme…I quickly locked in tickets.

On Friday, January 31, Sister Sparrow and her gang of Dirty Birds took the stage at the sold-out Brooklyn Bowl with much to prove at this highly anticipated show.

Using her black leather pants as a weapon and grizzly bear loud voice, Sister Sparrow lead gal (Arleigh Kincheloe) took on the role of Robert Plant with much chutzpa.

The band did their best… but can anyone ever really adequately cover Led Zeppelin??

Even the Robert Plant-led cover bands don’t do the original Core Four justice.

The crowd was more than entertained before pouring out to the sub-zero degree Bedford Ave streets.

Listen to the “Stairway to Heaven” video clip below…fast forward to about 3:30 in…the band rips hard.

Kudos to you Dirty Birds!!

Keep flapping your wings…

The original Core Four — (sorry Jeets.)

Although you could not hear the vocals well from where I was standing (front stage rail right)… I was able to capture first hand the thunderbolt of energy coming from the band.  Below is my video that I upload to YouTube…

My favorite song of the night was “Misty Mountain Hop”…the “Stairway to Heaven” (see video clip below) was great too.

Below is “Black Dog”…all fun!  You can see the style from this side of the stage clearly too.

Upstate Live Music (website) did a nice summary article with lots of photos.

Relix Magazine and Dino Perrucci were there too and posted more great photos (website) like the one below.

BTW…I finally got to the Wythe Hotel (website) across the street.  It was big fun.  A big weird scene with a tasty short menu and wine list.  A nice way to immediately assimilate to the neo-hip Williamsburg area.

usually don’t ask for help with the winelist, but the odd-lot selection pushed me out of my comfort zone…Happy that I did.

Thanks Mr. Wythe Hotel wine-man.

FYW.
