Every 30 minutes or so, someone would yell out “Hot F*cking Tuna” and I would crack a smile.
For some reason, like a fart joke or when a baby throws up on someone, I laugh like a little kid. (Yes, sick, but true.)
That phrase, and, more importantly their music have always conjured up deep rooted joy. I have been looking forward to this show since leaving the Fur Peace Ranch a few months ago.

Joining Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady (www.hottuna.com) on stage at the wonderful Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY last night (June 19, 2014) was guitar sideman extraordinaire, Larry Campbell.
Campbell, who became a key driver in Levon Helm’s resurgence and is featured in “Ain’t In It For My Health: A Film About Levon Helm,” provided an intricate and enabling complement to Jorma and Jacks stringed antics.
I have seen Hot Tuna is many shapes and sizes (neighbors, they once played in a basement nightclub called Images at Pearl River’s Blue Hill Plaza building), this show presented them at their finest. There ain’t no rock band that gets on a groove better then Hot F*cking Tuna when they are tuned in.
Jack’s energy on stage was sneaky and quickly peaked when he was bouncing up and down like when his early 80’s punk rock phase.
After a terrific opener by the funky Leon Russell and his white piano, Hot Tuna quickly heated up and burned off a smoking set that featured a few songs from the terrific soulful singer (Teresa Williams). Her wail on “Chauffeur Blues” and Greateful Dead cover “Sugaree” were particularly strong.
Some other highlights and personal electric favorites were “I See The Light”, “Bowlegged Woman” and “Funky #7”.
Some friends of mine (Jimmy B, et al) will be at tonight’s show in NJ. I hope the band stay hot and he joins in the “Hot F*cking Tuna” catcalls that keep all crazy-ass Tuna fans smiling wide.
Below is set show notes from last night…BTW…it Thursday not Wednesday guys.
Peace.
FYW.
