Two people in a period of one week told me that Yob is the best Doom Metal band in the world.

I didn’t even know what Doom Metal was, but was excited to see the Oregon-grown Yob play at the uber cool The Bell House in Gowanus section of Brooklyn.

Although I listened to their music on YouTube, I was not prepared for the real thing.

Opening band number one played at 9.  Two guys, drums and guitar.  Both playing like maniacs.  I didn’t understand one word the guitar player sang, but it was not important.  I was in the eye of a Doom Metal tornado and holding on tight.

Opening band number two played at 10. Two guys, drums and guitar.  A little more mojo than the first, but similar Doom Metal styles.  The crowd was working into a lather while the boys from Yob circled the lobby bar area.

Interesting enough I met two fellow Nyackers (not a common occurrence when in Brooklyn), one was dating Yob’s guitar layer.  He was such a nice unassuming lad, with mad skills on the guitar.  So glad to chat with him. He was quite floored when I told him two (yes two unrelated friends) told me Yob is the best Doom Metal Band on the planet.

When Yob took the stage I stood front rail just beneath the lead man. It was something out of Spinal Tap, but real.  The audience was not filled with mothers, but rather more nerdy intellects donned in tattoos and beards. They were having a blast… these guys loved their music.  My concern about getting punched by a mosher disappeared quickly as Yob headed into their second song.

A week later my ears are still ringing.

Being inside a Tornado is fuc$^ng loud, and worth the trip… just wear a helmet.

Here is a short video I shot on my phone from my post…(click here if your browser didn’t open the video)
