Jackie Greene has been touring heavy in the NY area this winter. His Shakedown Street/Another Brick in the Wall medley is super fun and has closed out many of his recent shows.

When he announced that he would be playing at Club Helsinki in Hudson, NY, I decided it was time to trek north up the river to check out yet another great Hudson Valley music venue. Similar to the Falcon, Club Helinski is the center of music and arts in that area. It is a wonderful venue and reminds me of being in an old barn that was renovated by someone with big bucks.

Club Helsinki is super cool

Unfortunately, Jackie and his band decided to unplug with a mellow acoustic show. No Shakedown-ing in the audience this evening. The band sat in their chairs on stage most of the evening… 🙁

The stripped down set did though give me an opportunity to appreciate how well Jackie sings.  His last album “Back to Birth” demonstrates his song writing and arrangement talents.  As I have said in the past, Jackie is a “5 Tool Player”… he can do it all. Once Jackie learns how to connect better with the audience, he will be unstoppable.

Hollis Brown opened up the show and at first their quirkiness was a turn-off, but the band’s leadman Mike Montali is a unique talent and quite entertaining.

Aside note, there is a terrific menu and tasty food at Club Helinski.

Next stop on the area venue tour is Roy’s Hall in Blairstown, NJ.
