Finally… a good episode of Vinyl.
Through scenes with Zak (Ray Romano) discovering the Bar Mitzvah singer (later named ‘Javier’) that does the David Bowie thing with his own beautiful twist…
Kip (James Jagger) learning that the Holy Trinity of rock guitar chords (E-A-B) are the foundation of so many classic songs through the years…
and the dweeb in the mailroom discovering the early disco sound…
Episode 8 hits an important point on why the Seventies was such an important era for music.
The genesis of so many new musical genres (Soul, Disco, Punk, Rap, Glitter Rock) was born from people looking for something to inspire them. People were tired of the same old same thing.

While I don’t agree with everything in Rolling Stone’s 4/3/16 episode review (I loved the Lennon and Marley bit), I do very much align with their last paragraph on the real essence of where new music is found…
It is through the guy next door (or in this case, the mailroom guy)…
From being curious and interested in thinking about music in a new way.

So keep flapping rancheros… follow the music.
Peace.
