With Mountain Jam 2016 now less than 30 days away, the banter about who is playing (and who is not… Drive By-Truckers, Lucero, Hold Steady, Uncle Neil to name a few) is a prime topic in my circle.

I must say, it’s better than talking about work, taxes, lawyers, lead in the water supply, nagging lung infections, and the presidential election.

A strange theme has percolated on my dashboard that introduced a new band to me… which, by the way, is my favorite part of going to my favorite rock music festival in the world. Mountain Jam.

Much to my surprise (and to those around me), I never heard of Train.

Yes, Train, the poster child for “talentless” pop rock on the walls of hardcore rock and rollers.

To the defense of Train, I think they are terrific.  They do Led Zeppelin really well.  Powerful, with heart and soft edges when needed.

They remind me of Elvis in the later Vegas years.

I (for one) am looking forward to Train’s 8:00 pm Thursday night appearance.

There are many naysayers vocal on social media about the “lame” lineup at Mountain Jam and Train’s new Zeppelin project.

I (for one) am looking forward to Mountain Jam’s top notch Friday – Saturday line-up.  How about this for a back to back to back to back…

Friday

 6:oo  Jason Isbell
 7:15  Chris Robinson Brotherhood
 8:30  Wilco
10:45  Government Mule

The Saturday late day run is good too!

Saturday

 5:15  Lettuce
 6:15  Gary Clark Jr
 7:30  Houndmouth
 9:00  Beck
12:00  Thievery Corp
 1:30  Lettuce (reprise)

See you on the mountain!!

Flap your wings.
