For whatever reason the guitars did not excite me, even being so close to Jerry Garcia’s “Tiger” pictured above didn’t bowl me over as I thought.

What I found most cool was the organs! Memorizing in fact.

The super awesome rock music exhibit “Play it Loud” at The Met in NYC (website) is a must see for music fans visiting NYC.  I was pleasantly surprised at how expansive the exhibit was. With more than 130 instruments and a host of audio and video displays, I was like a kid in a candy store.  Since it was Easter, it filled the void left by the Easter Bunny years ago.

More important than my hearing for Peeps and hallow chocolate bunnies from Sears was watching my college-aged daughter experience the history presented so close and personal. It was almost like she thought The Beatles were fables. She said “damn Papi, Ringo’s drum kid looks like a toy.”  Talking music while strolling through the treasures was damn memorable.

So go… don’t let time get by and miss it.

My favorite piece was the orange Vox Continental pictured above used by Ray Manzarek of The Doors, who’s unique style of playing both rhythm and melody provided the perfect swampy backbeat for big Jim Morrison.  Like old record players and radios, these organs are wonderful displays or color and design… not to mention phat sounds.

The picture of Brian Jones’ Mellotron (below) that I found on my camera displays its rawness and beauty.

As an added bonus when visiting the Met exhibit, are the views from the rooftop of Central Park (see below). Don’t miss it!
