In 1975 Bob Dylan recorded “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” (click here for more details and words) and included the character heavy, story tale in which Lily is a dancer and Big Jim’s mistress.  Lily is also the former lover of the Jack of Hearts. I was introduced to the song by my former bandmate Jerry Hastings. Talking music and songs with Jerry was awesome. I miss him.


But that is not the point rancheleros…


I found it fabulously interesting when my friend Billy told me about a student he has that said her parents named her Lily after that song.


I can imagine many parents named their kids “Melissa” after the genre bending Allman’s tune.  I in fact named my first daughter after the Beatles “Julia”. Regardless of the words, the song is gentle and beautiful.
