Today at work I had a great sidebar conversation about a client (Will) that recently switched jobs. Back in May 2016 I reviewed an album that his band put together (click here for that story) and have always had a soft spot for him considering his musical talents.

Evidently, Will is a late blooming Dead Head and is always asking my buddy (Rich), an old school Head, about specific shows and such.  I immediatly grabbed my little notebook and said, “He’s Gone” from Foxboro 7/2/89. Rich, of course, was there and continued to tell me about his tour stops that year.

I saw a clip of the show last week while watching YouTube late at night (one of my new favorite activities… read my 11/20/20 post for more on that topic) and was blown away at the vocal play between Bobby Weir and Brent Mydland when “He’s Gone” cued up.

The short-shorts wearing Bobby and bug-eyed Brent went into a unique back and forth vocal dance at the end of the song while Jerry Garcia drove home the song like a champ.

For those that really appreciate the Dead, these moments are what separates them from all other bands and bring feelings of massive joy when they pop up.

So Will and others… here is the link, enjoy!
