I may be one of the few that really liked Wes Anderson’s latest film “Asteroid City”. In this day and age when fast food-style movies are created in weeks for Netflix and Amazon, Wes Anderson continues to buck the trend and create dense, big flavor films that challenge the viewer and stimulate audiences with visuals and unique character profiles.
“The Life Aquatic Steve Zissou” is my all-time favorite movie (click here to read that story). FYI… “Rushmore” and “Royal Tennenbaum’s” are tied for my second favorite Wes flicks.
Anderson has a wildly devout cult following of A-list actors that participate in many of his productions… Bill Murray, Jason Schwartman, Scarlet Johansson, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody to name just a few. His posse reminds me of Warhol’s gang that helped express and bring texture to his visions. With Anderson, these actors are immersed in true art films that must be a wonderful departure from the mainstream movies that have earned them fame and fortune.
It is not always easy to explain why you like or hate a work of art… In this film I especially liked the use of shapes to frame visuals and the color scheme. It is unusual that a movie’s plot is not terribly important.
A big thumbs up too for including two Tex Ritter songs.
Anderson is one of the most unrated American artists that continues to produce robust works for those board with blah blah blah
Have you seen Bill Murray as Steve Zissou?
